Grade 1 & 2 News 11-24-14

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

November 24-25, 2014

Grade One/Two

I hope you all have an amazing and love-filled Thanksgiving holiday! When we come back, it will be Advent!

We have just one and a half days of fun and learning this week. In reading/language, we will look online at Plimoth Planation. They have a wonderful website full of information about early white settlers on the eastern coast of the now United States, as well as many fun and educational activities which children enjoy much. We will read a true story about Squanto. It is written by Joseph Bruchac, an Abenaki Indian, so we trust its authenticity. J There are no spelling words and there is no homework.

In math we will review doubles added and subtracted, doubles plus one and doubles plus two added and subtracted, and learn about 3 as an addend and a subtrahend.

Science is exciting this week! We have worked hard to prepare for our NASA virtual field trip on Monday. Our program is “Our Magnificent Sun.” My son, the tech guy in South Carolina, who helps me arrange these events, has seen this program and says it is a great one. He was here this weekend helping me with the final preparatory touches for the actual visit tomorrow. Woohoo!

We will also do some quick activities about turkeys, in keeping with the season. J

Mostly I just want to express my gratitude to you and to God for the blessing of knowing you and your children. At Mass this morning I was thinking about my “job” here, which is more like ministry and an amazing opportunity to see the face of Christ in so many of His people. Thank your for sharing with me your precious gift, your children. God bless us everyone.
